6. [In Korea, a representative dish for New Year's Day is tteokguk or rice cake soup. According to Dongguksesigi, a 19th-century handbook on Korean customs, People in the late 18th century started eating the dish of white rice cake to signify the first day's pure and solemn nature.]  ※representative:대표적인 ※dish:음식, 요리 ※According to: ~에 따르면 ※handbook:책자, 안내서 ※customs:관습 ※the dish of white rice cake:흰 떡으로 만든 음식 ※rice cake:떡 ※signify:나타내다, 의미하다. ※to signify the first day's pure and solemn nature:첫날의 순수하고 장엄한 자연을 나타내기 위하여 ※to signify~:나타내기 위하여(목적을 나태내는 부사적 용법) ※pure:순수한 ※solemn:엄숙한, 장엄한 ☞한국에서는 새해의 대표적인 음식이 떡국이다. 19세기 한국의 관습에 관련된 책자인 동국세시기에 따르면, 18세기의 사람들은 새해 첫날의 순수하고 장엄한 자연을 나타내기 위하여 흰떡으로 만든 요리를 먹기 시작했다.
